Digital Menu Analytics: Views, Sources and Their Limits

Key Takeaway

Understand Menujo views, source attribution, plan history and CSV reports. Learn what menu traffic can and cannot tell you about guests or sales.

What menu analytics measure

Digital menu analytics count menu-page visits. In Menujo, total views and approximate unique views help you follow traffic over time. They do not count confirmed camera scans, diners, orders or revenue.

The current dashboard includes daily trends, device and country summaries. Paid plans add audience details, busy-hour comparisons, recent visits and CSV reports. Business adds traffic sources. Check the current plan table before choosing a reporting window.

Total and unique views

Total views count recorded menu visits. Unique views use distinct IP addresses within the report. Guests on shared Wi-Fi can count as one unique view, while a person changing networks can count more than once. Neither metric is a guest headcount.

When visitors open the menu

Daily charts and paid busy-hour reports show viewing activity in UTC. A lunchtime peak can help you decide when to check that specials are current. Compare it with your service records before changing staffing or opening hours.

Devices and locations

Device summaries help prioritize phone and browser testing. Country and city are approximate network locations, not nationality, residency or preferred language. Ask staff and guests which translations they need, and check the multilingual menu workflow.

How traffic sources work

Business reports classify tagged QR links, social, search, internal, external and direct visits. A URL with s=qr or utm_medium=qr is classified as QR traffic. A link carrying one of those tags remains QR traffic when someone shares or types it, so the label does not prove a camera scan.

Recognized social tags such as utm_source=instagram can classify social traffic. Referrers also help classify visits, but apps and browsers may omit them. Direct traffic can therefore include shared links and visits with no referrer.

Menujo does not offer reports by table, QR placement or arbitrary campaign name. Its UTM builder can create tagged links for a separate analytics system you operate, but generating a parameter does not create a corresponding Menujo report.

Views do not measure item popularity or sales

The current Menujo reports do not show item opens, category taps, search terms, orders or revenue. An analytics summary cannot tell you that a particular dish attracted attention or caused an order.

Use POS or sales records for item quantities, revenue and margins. If you test a new description or photo, record the change date and compare sales over similar service periods. Menu views can provide context, but a change in traffic alone does not establish a sales effect.

A practical weekly review

  1. Choose the same scope

Select the same menu and reporting period each time. Note the UTC dates, closures, holidays and unusual events.
  2. Keep a baseline you can access

Free offers a rolling 7-day window. Save your own weekly observations before they leave that window, or use Pro or Business for longer history and exports. A four-week baseline cannot be recovered from Free after those days expire.
  3. Check the guest experience

Test the public menu on the most common devices. If traffic falls, check the destination, publication state and printed QR before assuming demand changed.
  4. Make one useful change

For example, improve a hard-to-read description or move the QR where guests can see it. Record what changed and why.
  5. Review with other evidence

Compare similar days and service records. Treat the result as an observation, then repeat if it is important to the business.

Privacy and retention

Menujo records network and browser information for analytics, including an IP address. It does not ask menu visitors for a name, email address or phone number to browse. Paid recent-visit and detail reports mean the dashboard is not limited to aggregate totals.

Individual view history is retained for up to 90 days, with the visible reporting window limited by plan. Read the privacy policy for current handling details. Avoid describing network data as anonymous or as proof of a person's identity.

Questions about this workflow

Does Menujo count QR scans?

It counts menu-page views. Tagged QR links can be classified as QR traffic on Business, but a tag does not prove that a camera scanned the code.

Which plans include analytics?

Free includes 7 days of views and basic summaries. Pro provides 60 days and paid report features, including exports. Business provides 90 days and traffic sources.

Can Menujo show my busiest hours?

Pro and Business include busy-hour reports and comparisons. Report times use UTC, so interpret them alongside your local service hours.

Can I compare tables or individual campaigns?

The current Menujo dashboard does not report by table, placement or arbitrary campaign name. Business provides the supported source categories.

Can I identify tourists from country data?

No. Network location does not establish nationality or language. Use it as a prompt to investigate guest needs with staff feedback.

Can I measure which dish sells best?

Use POS or sales records. The current Menujo reports do not show item opens, orders or revenue.

Is there a universal good views-to-table ratio?

No. Party size, shared devices, printed menus and pre-visit browsing all affect it. Compare your own venue over comparable periods without treating visits as diners.

Bring an existing spreadsheet

For an existing item list, use the tested CSV import walkthrough. Free can preview a file; Pro and Business can add the supported rows after review.
